Remodeling your kitchen may require the removal of your exhaust fan.
A kitchen sidewall exhaust fan that is part of the original house can be replaced with a different type of oven exhaust fan or removed altogether. A mobile home that is having the kitchen relocated or an additional room or garage attached where the original fan was would no longer need the sidewall exhaust fan. After the fan is removed, a large hole is left in the side of the house and will need to be covered.
Instructions
1. Remove the exhaust fan cover from the side of the house.
2. Fill the hole that is left with fire resistant insulation. The hole will be small but anytime you use insulation, cover your hands and arms to protect them from the fiberglass.
3. Cut a piece of drywall and fill the hole inside the house. Use drywall tape and mud to hold the patch in place. Smooth the area with more drywall wall mud, feathering the mud out and away from the patch.
4. Sand the area until it is as smooth as the remaining wall. Paint the area with paint used to orginally paint the room. Since most mobile homes come pre-painted and that paint may not be available, plan to paint the entire wall or even the room with new paint.
5. Cut a piece of plywood to fit the hole on the outside of the house. Glue the patch in place with a standard wood glue. Cover the small
6. Patch the area with vinyl to match the rest of the house. Purchase one strip of vinyl from a home improvement center to match your home. Cut the vinyl to fit the hole exactly. The vinyl will snap onto the lip of the piece of vinyl below the patch that was exposed when the fan plate was removed. Nail the new piece with aluminum nails. Drive the nails into the studs that are on the outside of the hole where the exhaust fan had originally been screwed. Two rows of vinyl siding will cover the
