Assemble & Install A Hugger Style Ceiling Fan

A hugger ceiling fan provides needed headroom for low ceilings.

A ceiling fan makes a nice addition to any room in your home. In the summer time the fan circulates the air in the room to cool it off, while in the winter time the direction of the blades are reversed to force warm air near the ceiling downwards. A ceiling fan is mounted in the center of the ceiling where a plain light fixture would normally be affixed. However most ceiling fans are available with a light kit. If you have a low, flat ceiling, a hugger-style ceiling fan may be the right choice for you. A hugger-style fan mounts close to the ceiling so that the blades provide ample head room.

Instructions

1. Turn off the electrical current to the junction box where you will be installing your ceiling fan at the main breaker box. Hold the ceiling fan mounting plate to the junction box on the ceiling, making sure the wires from the box hang down through the hole in the center of the mounting plate. Secure the mounting plate with screws that came with the junction box turned in with a Philips screw driver in a clockwise direction.

2. Suspend the fan motor to the junction box with the supplied hook to make connecting the wiring easier. Twist together with pliers the black wire from the fan and the black wire from the junction box. Twist a wire nut onto the end of the twisted wires in a clockwise direction until tight. Repeat this step for the white wire from the fan and the white wire from the junction box.

3. Connect the bare ground wire from the fan to the green ground screw on the junction box. Tighten the screw with a flat head screw driver in a clockwise direction.

4. Support the weight of the fan motor with one hand and remove the hook and place it aside. Raise the fan to the mounting plate and line up the mounting holes. Run the set screws into the mounting holes with a Philips screwdriver in a clockwise direction until tight.

5. Connect the blades to the mounting holes in the fan hub using the screws that came with your fan kit. Tighten the screws with a Philips screwdriver in a clockwise direction.

6. Press the bottom cover into place and tighten the set screw with a flat blade screwdriver. Turn the electrical power back on at the main breaker box.
