An acoustic ceiling, otherwise known as a popcorn ceiling, is a style that's especially common in homes built in the 1980s. The bumpy texture makes it hard to clean and it's prone to small bits flaking off when touched. If you have an unattractive acoustic ceiling in your home, you can hide it either with fabric or with ceiling tiles.

Hiding with Fabric
1. Measure the dimensions of your acoustic ceiling to determine the size of the
2. Cut a piece of fabric to cover the acoustic ceiling in the size of your measurements, if you want it to be pulled tight. Make the fabric piece 2 1/2 feet larger in each direction it you want a draped, tented look, which gives texture.
3. Attach the fabric to your acoustic ceiling using a staple gun. Start in the corner and work your way around the edges for a look that's pulled tight. For the tented look, Find the center of the fabric and staple it to the center of the ceiling. Staple in all four corners. Continue stapling around the line between the ceiling and the walls until you like the look of the fabric.
Hiding with Tile
4. Brush away any areas of the acoustic ceiling that are loose to prepare it for the tile.
5. Locate the center of the ceiling. Pull a chalk line across and snap it to create a chalk line down the center to serve as a guide.
6. Cover the back of a ceiling tile, made of polystyrene, with a layer of ceramic wall tile adhesive, which is effective in sticking to the textured surface of the acoustic ceiling.
7. Press the ceiling tile onto the acoustic ceiling, lining it up with the edge of the chalk line. Continue the adhesive and tile application, creating a line of tile on either side of the
