Installing Sheetrock on Your Ceiling

1. Gather all of your supplies. Set up the scaffolding in the room in which you are working. Hire or enlist in the help of one or two people.

2. Check your scaffolding to make sure it is sturdy enough to hold the weight of three. Prepare yourself with your drill, using a Phillips head bit and plenty of Sheetrock screws. Take a good look at where the studs are in the ceiling. Have your helpers hold to Sheetrock firmly to the ceiling in the corner of the first side of the room. Screw securely, every 4 inches in lines as the studs go. Do a line of screws down or across every stud under the Sheetrock.

3. Repeat Step 2 for every piece of Sheetrock. When you come to an edge where a full sheet will not fit, use the Sheetrock knife to cut the piece to fit. Measure, draw a line and then cut.

4. Once all of the Sheetrock is installed on your ceiling it's time to tape and mud. Use the Sheetrock tape to cover all seams. Cut the tape where needed with a utility knife. Apply the Sheetrock mud generously using a mud knife and smooth well. Allow it to dry and then apply another coat if needed.

5. Once all coats of mud are dry, use sandpaper or an electric sander to sand thoroughly. Once you are finished sanding, clean up all the dust and your Sheetrock is ready to paint.
