The Emerson Crown model of ceiling fan has a built in uplight which adds an additional light source to the room. You can wire this uplight separately from the switch that controls to fan so you can turn on the fan independently from the light.
Instructions
1. Turn off the power to the room that the fan is currently installed in by flipping the circuit breaker for that particular room to the "Off" position. Working with live wires is extremely dangerous.
2. Strip the ends of each wire coming from the three-wire conductor cable, including the ground wire. Run the ground wire from the cable to a ground wire running through your walls and connect it to this wire with a wire connector.
3. Run one end of one of the remaining wires from the conductor cable to a positive power wire in the same wall and connect it with a wire connector. Run the opposite end of this wire to the white wire connected to the uplight and splice them together with a wire connector.
4. Connect the second wire from the conductor cable to the terminal on the light switch for the the uplight. Connect the other end of this wire to the blue wire that is connected to the uplight by stripping the end of the blue wire and splicing them together with a wire connector.
5. Connect the third wire from the conductor cable to the terminal on the switch to control the fan. Connect the other end of this wire to the black wire connected to the fan by stripping the end of the wire and splicing them with a wire connector.
