Shorten The Ikea Chandelier Light

Ikea chandelier lights are a decorative way to illuminate a dining room or foyer. The chandeliers lights hang from a standard hanging light chain, and the electrical wire from the ceiling to the fixture is wound through the chain links. Sometimes you might find it necessary to raise the chandelier. Shortening the Ikea chandelier light chain raises the light as necessary. Unlike some lights which have links that open, it is not necessary to disassemble the Ikea chandelier to shorten the chain.

Instructions

1. Turn off the circuit breaker to the Ikea chandelier light fixture. Move any furniture under the chandelier, and set a step ladder under the fixture.

2. Find the S hook on the chain, if the chandelier is currently using an S hook. Grab the chain just above the fixture in one hand, and lift up slightly to provide slack in the chain. Unhook the S hook from the chain. Gently lower the chandelier until the chain has no slack. If you cannot find the S hook that comes with the chandelier, they are available at home-improvement centers.

3. Count down five links of chain from the canopy. Place the S hook into the fifth chain link. Grasp the chain with your hands, and raise the Ikea chandelier to the desired height. Adjust your grip on the chain as necessary so that you are holding the chain at the bottom of the S hook with the chandelier at the desired height.

4. Fold the slack in the chain out of the way, and hook the chain into the bottom of the S hook. Continue making height adjustment as necessary, until you have the desired height.

5. Move the step ladder and place the furniture back under the chandelier. Turn on the circuit breaker to power the Ikea chandelier.
