How a Carbon Odor Eliminator Works
Unlike traditional air fresheners, candles or perfumed sprays, carbon does not simply mask odors, it absorbs them. Most carbon-based odor eliminators use a form of charcoal, which is highly porous and therefore absorbent, to eliminate odors.
Commercial Odor Eliminators

Make Your Own Odor Eliminator
The form of charcoal in commercial odor elimination products is active charcoal, also called active carbon. It is available in a variety of styles. An inexpensive source of activated charcoal is fish tank filters, available at most pet supply stores. You can use these filters or active charcoal granules to eliminate odors.
Odor Elimination Without Carbon
Active charcoal works best when removing odors from a confined area such as a car, a room or the inside of a refrigerator. If you are a hunter hoping to make your scent undetectable to game, commercial sprays are available that will accomplish this. You can also make your own spray by combining water, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and scentless hunting soap.
