Whirlpool electric dryer spins but no heat

Whirlpool electric dryer spins but no heat

I haven't any problems with this less than 4 year old dryer. Last night I went to get the dry laundry and it was wet although I heard the dryer spinning. Dryer spins but there's no heat. I flipped the breakers two different times but still no heat. Any suggestions? I am not an electrician! POST MODEL # 1st check voltage to dryer needs 240, There are several things that could be wrong usually thermostat or heater element. Has it been taking longer to dry clothes than when you first got dryer? a plugged vent can cause clothes to not dry properly. Model/serial numbers are very helpful... A failed heating element could be the culprit. An ohmmeter test will verify if the heater is good or not. A failed thermal limiter is also common. If the dryer vent from the dryer outlet to the outside vent hood is clear--the thermal limiter can still be tripped (or blown) from using fabric softener sheets. The sheet can cover the lint filter housing--dramatically reducing air flow and causing an abnormal rise in internal temperature. This will cause a limiter to fail. Forgetting to clean the lint filter will cause this same air flow reduction (although this is somewhat rare). A faulty thermostat or thermistor can also do this (and take a thermal limiter with it as well). Measuring voltage at the dryer receptacle is a must---using a voltmeter---should read 220-240 volts. A failed timer contact is not unheard of. Damaged wiring at the terminal block---where the plug attaches to the dryer. A faulty centrifugal switch on the motor will cause a NO HEAT complaint. Very rarely---a failed temperature selector switch can also be the culprit too. A lot of things to troubleshoot for one type of failure...
