Buy A Nextel Prepaid Cell Phone

Sprint Nextel is one of many companies that offer consumers the option of bypassing the restrictive contracts and credit checks of regular wireless service through prepaid cell phone packages. A pay-as-you-go phone plans lets you buy minutes by the month, using only what you need and gives you the freedom to cancel your phone at any time.

Instructions

1. Check out the Nextel prepaid phone packages being offered at the various online retailers, or on the company's website. Compare rates, since phone prices may vary from vendor to vendor. If you want to buy your prepaid phone in person, find the Sprint Nextel store nearest you or visit your local wireless communications retailer.

2. Take the time to closely review the terms and conditions associated with the various Nextel plans. Traditionally, Nextel has offered flexible plans that offer a fixed number of daytime minutes, plus free evenings and weekends at sliding rates, depending on how many minutes you buy. You can also add in features like text and picture messaging and more, depending on your phone's capabilities.

3. Choose the phone you want. If you don't plan on adding in any features, save some money by going with a base model.

4. Have your phone activated in-store if you're shopping in person. If you're shopping online, follow the easy step-by-step instructions that accompany your prepaid kit when it arrives at your home.

5. Make a note of your new phone number. You will only receive your new number once you have activated your phone and paid for your first batch of minutes.

6. Use your cell phone according to the terms and conditions of your plan. Remember that if you use features like directory assistance and international calling, the minutes will be charged. Know all rates before using any special services.

7. Adjust to a different plan if you didn't use all your minutes the first month, or if you need more. If you want to discontinue use, Nextel will disconnect your service once your minutes run out and you fail to add more. You can opt to add more minutes so long as you own the phone.

Tips Warnings

Sprint and Nextel have merged into one company. Sprint and Nextel customers can now convert their phone plans from one side to the other.

Nextel might buy back your phone from you, if it's in good condition, is relatively new and you've decided to discontinue your prepaid calling plan.

Understand the warranty terms on your phone. Consider buying insurance to replace it in the event it gets lost or damaged.
