Making tabs for Pendaflex hanging file folders is a snap, using templates and perforated stock.
If you're of advanced age, you may remember when creating labels for Pendaflex hanging file folders meant trying to keep them straight as you rolled them through the platen of a typewriter. No more. Now it's simply a matter of buying the right perforated stock and using the appropriate template in Microsoft Word. Most manufacturers of folder tab inserts also provide the templates you need to print on them accurately.
Instructions
1. Download the template that matches the tab insert form.
2. Open the template in Microsoft Word by selecting Open from the File menu, or by having the template auto-open after it downloads.
3. Type the first label. Adjust the font size if the type doesn't fit. Press the tab key to go to the next label. Repeat until you have typed all your labels.
4. Load the perforated tab sheets into your printer.
5. Print the tab inserts by selecting Print from the File menu.
6. Separate the printed tabs at the perforations and insert them in the insertable tabs on the Pendaflex folders.
Tips Warnings
If your label headings are in a database--client names, for instance--you can use the Merge function in Microsoft Word or OpenOffice Word to generate all your Pendaflex labels automatically.
If you've never used tab stock before, it is a good idea to do a test print of your labels on a plain sheet of paper first. Put the test print over a sheet of stock and hold it up to the light to make sure the type aligns properly on each tab.
Label tabs don't leave much room for error. Make sure your stock is loaded properly in your printer, and do a test print before you start your print job, or you'll risk ruining an entire sheet of stock.
Double-check that the product number on your template matches the number on your stock. Pendaflex printable tabs come in several different sizes, and using the wrong template will cause your labels to misprint.
