Get Rid Of Hickies

Get Rid of Hickies

Hickies are temporary red marks on the skin caused by excessive kissing or sucking--with enough force to break open some blood vessels around the surface or beneath the skin. Hickies are also known as passion marks, love-marks or love bites. These kiss marks can be afflicted on any part of the skin, but is commonly seen around the neck area. Its effect is just superficial and is never dangerous. It usually takes up to a maximum of 5 days to get rid of hickies completely. However, you can work on speeding up its disappearance by applying the tips below.

Instructions

1. Use some cold agents to help minimize a dark hickey. Prepare some ice cubes and wrap them with a wash cloth. Gently position it on top of the mark. You can also place a spoon on the freezer for about 10 minutes. After that. wrap it with a wash cloth. Lightly massage it up and down the mark until the spoon is warm again. Remember to not press the spoon too hard for it may cause more bruising on the area. Avoid applying ice or any cold agent directly on your skin for this may only cause ice burn.

2. Perform light massage around your hickey. If your hickey is slightly bleeding, allow it to cease and apply a gentle circular massage using your thumb. Make sure to wash your hands first before doing massage. You don't want to end up having an infected hickey.

3. Rub the mark lightly with a comb or a soft bristled hairbrush. Just do a gentle up and down motion of the brush or comb around the area. Do not scrape it too much or you will end up having unwanted red scratches surrounding the mark.

4. Apply heat 1 to 2 days after the existence of your hickey. Get a wash cloth and dip it in lukewarm water. Wring it apply on the mark for about 5 minutes about 3 times a day. You can also use a tea bag to provide heat, just re-moist and re-heat the bag when its getting colder. Don't forget to wrap the tea bag with a wash cloth to avoid staining your skin.

5. Do the hot water and toothbrush technique. Another heat application is through the use of a soft bristled tooth brush. Dip it under hot water and tap it to remove drips. Apply a light sweeping motion on the mark. Do this for about 10 minutes. You can also incorporate this technique with the cold spoon method (please refer to step one for this method)--start with the cold spoon from step one and then followed by application of the toothbrush technique. Keep on doing the alternate cold spoon and hot toothbrush technique for 20 to 30 minutes.

6. Prepare some baking powder, water and salt. Mix all these agents together until it appears pasty. Apply it on your hickey. This mixture promotes fading of your hickey in no time. Apply this solution every morning before you take a shower and during the night before going to sleep.

7. Cover your hickey. It may sound inappropriate for the summer but if you want to cover an exposed hickey, you have to wear a turtle neck top, long-sleeve or sweater, or even a scarf to avoid others from seeing your love bite. For girls, make up will do the trick. Just lightly place a green eye shadow on your hickey to cover up the red spot and then top it off with a concealer to neutralize the shade. As for guys, well you can buy a gauze bandage and plaster, cover your hickey, and think of a really good story about your bogus injury.

Tips Warnings

Try to stop just short of leaving a hickie on your love.

Don't give the hickie too much attention. This may make it worse.
