Repair An Rv Hot Water Heater With A Pilot

One luxury of traveling in an RV is having a private bathroom and kitchen with warm water at your disposal. With age, however, RV water heaters can slowly malfunction and ultimately need replacing. Before spending money on a new hot water heater, investigate ways to fix the unit on your own. One common problem involves the pilot light. A faulty pilot can mean the thermocouple needs to be replaced.

Instructions

1. Turn off the gas supply running to the water heater. This is a dangerous project if this is not done.

2. Remove the thermocouple using an adjustable wrench.

3. Screw the new thermocouple into place using a socket wrench. Tighten so the thermocouple stays in place.

4. Turn the gas supply on and light the pilot light with a match.

5. Test the water heater by turning on the hot water faucet in the bathroom or kitchen. If changing the thermocouple doesn't work, you may need to replace the entire water heater.
