Apply Stucco To A Ceiling

Stucco can be manipulated into various textures.

It's often hard to know what to do with a ceiling when you're remodeling. Drop ceiling tiles can look tacky and will lower the level of the ceiling. A plain white ceiling, of course, is boring. Consider stucco. Stucco is a form of cement that can be shaped into a textured surface that's great for hiding ridges and flaws in the ceiling.

Instructions

1. Cover the ceiling in a layer of sealing primer, rolling it on with your paint roller. Let it dry completely.

2. Open your stucco compound. Stir in 1 cup of ceiling paint per gallon of primer, using your drill and mixer bar.

3. Apply the stucco to the ceiling, starting in one corner. Working in sections of 6 or 8 square feet, spread a layer of stucco about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch thick, using your cement trowel and spreading it flat.

4. Use your grout trowel to texture the stucco, by pressing the flat rubber of the trowel against the stucco and pulling it straight down, creating peaks and ridges. Repeat the process over all the stucco section.

5. Spread more stucco and repeat the process until the whole ceiling is done.

6. Let the ceiling set for three or four days. Set up your paint roller with an extra thick sleeve and paint the stucco with ceiling paint.
