A ceiling fan relies on electricity to power the motor that rotates the blades. Open the part of the ceiling fan that houses the electric cord -- called the "housing" -- to replace or repair the cord if electricity is not reaching the motor. The procedure is straightforward, requires disassembly of the housing and similar for all makes of ceiling fans. Household tools will be needed, but no electrical safety measures are necessary.
Instructions
1. Place the ceiling fan's housing on a work surface with the blades facing up. Remove the screws from the edges of the blades using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the blades out of the depressions in the tabs attached to the motor housing. Place the blades aside.
2. Turn the motor housing over. Remove the screws from the sides of the metal pipe ("Yoke") on the top of the housing cover using the screwdriver. Pull the pipe off the housing.
3. Remove the screws surrounding the top of the housing cover with the screwdriver. Pull the motor housing cover off the housing, using your hands.
4. Pull the motor bearing off the pole using your hands. Lift the rotor assembly off the top of the , or stator.
5. Lift the pole at the bottom of the grooved metal plate out of the motor bearing. Grip the cord coming out of the hole in the pole at the bottom of the grooved metal plate. Pull the cord out of the motor bearing.
6. Grip the cord coming out of the pole at the top of the grooved metal plate. Pull the cord out of the pole. The cord can now be repaired or replaced as needed.
