1. Decide what size and shape your want your lamp to be. Purchase Styrofoam in the shape and size suitable for the lampshade of the lamp you have in mind.
2. Choose picture you want to imitate in the stained-glass pattern. The picture needs to be traceable so that you can transpose the picture to the pattern you create.
3. Select color palette for the lamp. Make sure they are a good fit for the theme of the lamp and will be a good match in the room where the lamp will be used.
4. Trace pattern on poster board using carbon transfer tracing paper. Darken the lines using a black permanent marker and color in the pattern in colors of your choice with magic marker to see how the finished product will look when you design a stained-glass pattern lamp.
5. Cut out the pieces you've traced and colored. Attach these pieces to the Styrofoam you purchased for a good overall image of what the lamp will look like when finished.
