Replace A Mobile Home Ceiling

Replace a Mobile Home Ceiling

Ceilings on a mobile home are similar to ceiling tiles because most mobile homes use panels that are attached to the ceiling. If a ceiling panel is discolored or is broken, it will need to be replaced. The panels used for a mobile home ceiling are large and can measure 4 feet wide and can be up to 14 feet long. This means that you will need to find out how many panels you need to replace the mobile home ceiling.

Instructions

1. Measure the width and length of the panels that you need to replace on ceiling of the the mobile home with the tape measure.

2. Transfer the measurements to a new ceiling panel by making marks with the pencil.

3. Cut the panel to the correct size by cutting along the pencil marks with the circular saw.

4. Take the old panel out of the mobile home ceiling. If the tiles are secured to the ceiling with staples, you will need to remove them using a small pry bar, the end of a flat head screwdriver or a pair of pliers.

5. Pull all remaining staples out of the ceiling with the pry bar, the flat head screwdriver or the pliers. Use a scraper to scrape off any glue that may have been used to secure the panels.

6. Set the new panels in place and drive 1.5-inch drywall screws at the edge of the panel into the ceiling truss along the wall with a power drill.

7. Insert a rosette screw at the center of the panel into the roof truss. Place a screw every 14 to 18 inches down the length of the panel.

8. Repeat this process for each panel that you need to replace.

9. Cover any seams between the mobile home ceiling panels with a batten. A batten is a small piece of wood or trim that is the length of the panel. Place a batten over a seam and attach it to the ceiling with finish nails using the hammer. Make sure the nails are going into a roof truss.
