Repair A Knock Down Ceiling

Repair a Knock Down Ceiling

Textured walls and ceilings are currently a popular choice in homes. Knock Down (also known as "skiptrowel") ceilings are one of the most popular selections. A Knock Down ceiling will give your interior a "Mediterranean" look. Occasionally the ceiling could need to be repaired. The ceiling may need to be repaired because it cracked, or maybe you installed a ceiling electrical fixture and had to take out a section of drywall. It is fairly easy to repair a Knock Down ceiling as compared to the other textures that are available.

Instructions

1. Repair the drywall in the area that you want to fix your Knock Down ceiling. Depending on your situation, you may need to cut some drywall out and replace it. Make sure it is all mudded and sanded before applying the Knock Down texture.

2. Purchase Knock Down texture spray cans at your local home improvement store. These spray-on repair kits are usually found in the area the paint is kept in at the store. The spray can is an aerosol can with the Knock Down texture already pre-mixed in the can.

3. Follow the instructions on the can and try to match the texture of the rest of the wall. Spray in even motions and don't let too much Knock Down spray in one area.

4. Allow the texture to dry for a few minutes. Wet a plastic six or eight-inch drywall trowel and gently glide it over the Knock Down texture to spread it out in "squiggly-like" patterns. The texture should now be starting to look like the texture on the rest of the wall.

5. Let the texture dry as per the recommendation on the spray can. Prime and paint the ceiling with the color of your choice.
