Remove A Remote Control Ceiling Fan

Ceiling fans can be a wonderful addition to most rooms, but some design experts believe that they can take away from a room's overall look. Due to this change in trends, more and more people are looking to remove their ceiling fans in certain rooms of their home. Removing a remote control ceiling fan is relatively easy and it can be accomplished in about 25 minutes.

Instructions

1. Set up the ladder so the remote control ceiling fan is slightly in front of the top of the ladder.

2. Turn off the breaker that provides power to the fan. Do not rely on simply turning the switch or remote control off.

3. Remove the screws that are holding the fan's canopy in place. Slide the canopy down the fan's shaft.

4. Test the wires with the touch-type voltage tester to ensure that the circuit is definitely off.

5. Find the remote control transformer. It is a large black box that will be hard to miss, as it usually takes up most of the space above the mounting bracket.

6. Disconnect the black and white wires on the side of the remote control transformer that has two wires on it. Disconnect the fan's ground wire from the ceiling box's ground screw.

7. Lift the ceiling fan out of the hanging bracket and slide it out. The remote control transformer should come out with the fan. Be careful, the fan will be heavy and possibly awkward to hold.

8. Lower the fan to your assistant who is standing on the ground.

9. Remove the mounting bracket from the ceiling box.

10. Place wire connectors over each wire in the ceiling box and stuff the wires back into the box. Either cover the box with a blank plate or you can choose to use it to install a different light fixture.
