Decorate Your House In The Nautical Theme

Whether you just enjoy the sea and the beach or are retired from a nautical-related profession, you may want to bring a little of the sea into your home. Accomplish this by decorating your entire house in a nautical theme. While decorating your home should be something that is done in a style that is personal for you, there are some things you can do that are standard when decorating in this theme. Implement as little or as much of the d cor as you feel is appropriate for your home and the look you are going for.

Instructions

1. Focus on decorating with navy, white and khaki colors to maintain a nautical theme throughout the house. Splashes of red are a good choice to accent the theme. Curtains or shades with a navy and white stripe give a room a nautical feel.

2. Seek out vintage-themed pieces of furniture and d cor for the house. Items to look for include wood chests, bamboo wood, mirrors and picture frames in a circle to resemble a port hole and sea-grass chairs. For pillows, find fabric that has sailboats, anchors or similar items.

3. Accent the rooms with model boats, replica, a ship wheel, lighthouses and other related items. Look for artwork to hang on the walls, trinkets or other items to display. Artwork can include metal artwork, such as metal fish or seashells and paintings of sailboats and ocean sunsets.

4. Apply seashells with a hot glue gun to lamps, picture frames and other items for a simple way to boost the theme of a room. Alternatively, you can set out single shells on accent tables or other furniture.

5. Use a stencil or stamp to paint sailboats, anchors or lighthouses on the blades of any ceiling fans in your rooms. Leave the fan blades their original color or paint them in navy or khaki to continue the theme before you add on the stencil.

6. Add live plants to rooms where they seem to fit in. This is better in the more relaxed nautical-themed rooms, especially ones with shells and other beach items. The plants can also go well on a patio or deck, if you want to carry on the nautical theme to your exterior living space.
