Do Antler Sheds Crafts

Creating decorative jewelry is another use for antler sheds.

Turning antler sheds into crafts is not difficult. Knife handles, drawer pulls and even jewelry are just a few of the items made from antlers. To make jewelry, measure the desired length of the piece, drill a hole in the side, and run a decorative cord through the hole. Add any additional decorations and tie off. Once complete the necklace is ready to wear. This basic design is easily changed to make earrings, bracelets and string ties.

Instructions

1. Measure two inches from the tip of an antler shed. Mark with a marker.

2. Place goggles on and set up the table saw. Run antler shed through the table saw at the marked location.

3. Attach the vice to the workbench. Secure the antler into the vice. Mark area on antler shed where hole will be placed. Drill a hole through the antler shed in the marked location.

4. Sand the cut and drilled area of the antler shed with 120 grit sandpaper. Apply desired finish and let dry.

5. Run leather strip through hole and decorate with beads. Tie string off once necklace design is complete.
