Vertically Mount A Tv In A Closet

Hanging a TV inside a closet is a great way of making it accessible without it being the centerpiece of the room when it's not in use. Depending on the model of your TV and the size of your closet, there are several ways to vertically mount a TV in a closet. While the back wall may be an obvious choice, you can also suspend the TV from the ceiling or mount it on a side wall using a swing arm, letting you swing it to the front of the closet when it's in use and then push it back out of the way when you're finished watching it.

Instructions

Mounting Kit Options

1. Consult the user guide that came with your TV to determine if it has any special requirements for being mounted. The manufacturer's website may also provide information regarding which type of mounting brackets are recommended for your model.

2. Measure the dimensions of the closet with a measuring tape to determine what type of mounting bracket you should purchase. Depending on the size of the closet you have a number of choices. For a deep closet, you can use a swing-arm mount hung from the wall or a hanging bracket hung from the ceiling. For a shallow closet, you can use wall mount that hangs the TV from the wall much like a painting would be.

3. Sit in the chair or sofa where you would watch the TV to determine the height it should be mounted and whether or not you need to be able to tilt the TV. Tilt mounts let you tilt the TV up and down, whereas full-motion mounts let you tilt the TV in any direction.

Installation

4. Read the instructions that come with your TV mount and make sure the required pieces came in the box it shipped with. Contact the manufacturer or company you purchased it from if any pieces are missing.

5. Assemble the mounting kit as directed by the instructions it came with. Most mounting kits come with two bracket assemblies. One bracket is assembled and screwed to the wall or ceiling, and the second bracket is screwed to the TV and then attached to the wall bracket.

6. Identify where the studs are in the wall using a stud finder. If you're suspending the TV from the ceiling, use the stud finder to locate the beam. Mark the stud positions with a pencil.

7. Position the wall bracket against the wall so the screw holes are over the studs. Place a bubble level on top of the bracket to ensure it's level. For a ceiling-mount bracket, you don't need a bubble level, but you do need to ensure the bracket is centered on the beam. Mark the position of the screw holes with a pencil.

8. Compare the width of your electric drill bits with the width of the screws that came with the bracket. Select a bit that's one size smaller than the screw. Drill holes where you marked the screw hole positions using an electric drill.

9. Place the bracket over the screw holes and screw it into place with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Tug at the mount to ensure it's securely attached to the wall or ceiling.

10. Screw the TV bracket to the back of the TV as directed by the manufacturer's instructions. Connect the two brackets in accordance with the bracket model you're using. For example, if you're using a swing-arm mount, you'll attach the mount you connected to the back of the TV to the swing-arm mount.
