Make Bike Storage For The Ceiling

Use a cleat hook to make tying and untying the bike rope easy.

Although they are healthy, environmentally friendly and relatively simple to use, bikes can be tough to store safely, especially in areas where space is limited. If standing a bike on the ground or mounting it on a wall when it is not in use is not a possibility, knowing make bike storage for the ceiling could help you store your bike safely and securely without cutting into your otherwise limited floor space.

Instructions

1. Measure the bicycle, using a tape measure. Make a note of the distance from the middle point on the handlebars to the back of the seat. Measure out this distance on a ceiling joist and mark the distance on the joist, using the chalk. Alternatively, if the bike is to be stored perpendicular to the ceiling joists, cut a piece of 2-inch by 4-inch lumber to the length you noted and nail this to the ceiling joists.

2. Fasten one pulley to each end of the chalk mark on the ceiling joist, or to each end of the piece of 2-inch by 4-inch lumber. Attach the pulleys, using 2-inch deck screws and the screwdriver, unless the pulleys came with alternative screws or attachments, in which case those should be used instead. Stand on the ladder to make reaching the ceiling easier and safer.

3. Pass the rope through both pulleys. Follow the instructions provided with the pulleys for the best method of using them with the rope. Attach the hook assemblies to the rope so bikes can be hooked up to it. Attach the cleat hook to the wall, using more 2-inch screws. Fasten the rope to the cleat hook.
