Remove A Progress Lighting Cobblestone Ceiling Fixture With Alabaster Glass

When a fixture has a large nut in the center of the glass, it's easy to determine remove the cover.

Removing a light fixture with no visible screws can be a daunting task. In the majority of cases, it's a fairly simple task once you know the trick. Such is the case with Progress Lighting's flush-mount Cobblestone fixture with alabaster glass. The glass cover is held in place by a twist lock. It's a simple matter of twisting the glass counter-clockwise to remove it to gain access to the bulbs and the fixture's mounting screws.

Instructions

1. Turn off the breaker controlling the light. Remove the glass cover by twisting it counter-clockwise. Be prepared for the glass to come loose as you turn it. Some fixture covers that don't have visible screws are held in place by metal spring tabs inside the fixture. For this type, pull the glass straight down to remove. Remove the bulbs from the fixture to gain access to the mounting screws.

2. Find the two screws holding the fixture to the ceiling. They should be toward the middle of the fixture, about 2 1/2 inches apart. If they are not immediately visible, remove any insulation that might be covering them. Loosen the two mounting screws enough that the fixture drops away from the ceiling about 1/8 inch.

3. Twist the entire fixture. Turn it so the larger hole in the slots the screws pass through lines up with the screw heads. Once you get the screw heads through the holes, the fixture will be free. You'll need to support the fixture until you have disconnected all of the wires.

4. Remove the wire nuts to finish removing the fixture from the ceiling.
