Hang A Bubble Ball Chair

You are a maven of style and counter culture. Unbound by the standards of traditional living room furniture, you would rather have functional art. You got yourself a bubble ball hanging chair. You have only one problem; how are you supposed to hang something like this?

Instructions

Hanging Your Bubble Chair

1. Determine the best location. First things first, keep in mind that this chair is acrylic. And since it is hanging, it is important to keep a safe swinging radius on all sides. It can easily be damaged by any sharp corners/edges, not to mention it potentially causing damage to other furniture, walls or objects. So before you go through the trouble of hanging it, look for an area with a little space on all sides. If you want to hang more than one bubble chair, leave enough swinging room between them, so they don't clack together and break.

2. Locate the ceiling stud. You must find a spot on your ceiling that will give you an ample amount of support. There are three basic methods for finding studs: knocking, measuring and the electronic stud finder. Depending on whether you have "popcorn" on your ceiling, a combination of any of these three may help most. The first is the tried and true knocking method. This is simply knocking on the ceiling until the hollow sound is replaced with a much shallower one. The second is measuring. Most wall and ceiling studs are placed in intervals of 16 inches. So go to the nearest wall and start measuring out from there. Finally, the electronic stud finder is always a safe bet. It may be difficult to maneuver on popcorn ceilings, but it should still be able to detect the nails used for the sheetrock, which are a good indicator for studs.

3. Measure the ceiling height. Once you have the location determined, take a measurement from floor to ceiling. The manufacture recommends that the bubble chair hang at about six inches between the bottom of the bubble and the floor. To get the proper length chain, take the floor-to-ceiling height and minus 55 inches or four feet seven inches. This takes into account the diameter of the bubble, the height from the ground, the snap hook and the screw hook.

4. Attach the screw hook. So by now you've got the perfect place in mind to hang your bubble chair. You need purchase a screw hook that can withstand about 200 kg (440 lbs) of vertical weight. Then choose a drill bit that has a smaller radius than that of the screw and drill a pilot hole in the ceiling. The screw hook is now ready to go in.

5. Hang the Chair. When choosing a chain, make sure that it is a gauge that can withstand prolonged weight. Affix the snap hooks on the links on each end, and loop one snap hook around the screw hook on the ceiling. Take the other end and affix the other snap hook to the hoop on the bubble chair. And there you have it. Take a load off.
