Install A Hampton Bay Huntington Iii Ceiling Fan

Hampton Bay ceiling fans are the exclusive brand sold at Home Depot and come in a variety of sizes, colors and specifications. Measure the room to determine the size you need and whether you need a regular installation, a hugger or a down-rod. Huggers are used for low ceilings and down-rods are used for high ceilings.

Instructions

1. Remove the ceiling fan and all the parts from the box. Lay out the parts and read the package insert that comes with the ceiling fan. After you have a general idea of how you'll install the ceiling fan, make sure all the parts are included in the box. Put the ceiling fan together according to the instructions. This usually consists of attaching the brackets to the blades and attaching the blades to the housing.

2. Gather all the tools you could possibly need to install the ceiling fan. There is nothing worse than standing on a step ladder with the fan in your hands, only to realize you need another tool. You'll need a step ladder, a circuit tester, screwdriver, wire strippers and pliers to install the ceiling fan where an old fan is being replaced or where a light fixture hung. If this is a whole new install, you'll also need a drywall saw to cut a hole in the ceiling and a new ceiling box. Hammer and nails or a screw gun and screws are needed to install the new ceiling box to the joist or between the ceiling joists.

3. Turn off the electricity to the room. Test the wires with the circuit tester to make sure the power is off, even if the electricity is turned off at the breaker box. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

4. Install the mounting box to the ceiling. The type of mounting box you install depends on if this is a new installation or a replacement for an old ceiling fan or light fixture. The ceiling box (mounting box) may also vary if you are mounting it directly on a joist or between them.

5. Hang the hook or attach the ceiling plate to hang the ceiling fan. Make sure it's secure to keep the ceiling fan from vibrating and loosening the screws holding the ceiling fan.

6. Wire the fan according to the directions included in the fan. Check and double-check the wiring connections to make sure they are secure and wired according to directions.

7. Tighten all connections securely, and install the light kit if desired. Turn the electric back on, and turn on the ceiling fan for a delicious cool breeze.
