Hang A Glass Cocacola Tiffany Lamp

America's love for Coca-Cola became one of Tiffany's subjects.

Louis Tiffany began making his handcrafted lamps in the late 1800s. These lamps quickly began to become popular for their unique stained glass look. Today, Tiffany's lamps are still popular and sought after. Many patterns, designs and nature pictures are available to choose from. One of Tiffany's most popular lamps was the Coca-Cola stained glass lamp. Still popular today, this iconic lamp can be purchased as a floor lamp or hanging ceiling lamp. Hanging the latter requires several steps.

Instructions

1. Turn off the main power at your home's electrical panel.

2. Put a ladder under the ceiling area to be worked on.

3. Unscrew and remove the previous lamp's canopy with a flat-head screwdriver. This will give you access to the electrical box.

4. Remove all connectors from any wiring by twisting them off. Once this is done, the old fixture can be completely removed.

5. Unscrew the electrical box from the metal hanger bar in the ceiling. Loosen the screw on the cable connector and slide the cable out.

6. Install the fan brace. Place the brace inside the ceiling so that both of the brace's feet sit flat on either side of the ceiling hole. Turn the brace until its prongs dig into the ceiling joists. Then you can use a wrench to tighten the brace.

7. Install the new electrical box. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to open one of the box's knockout plugs. Bring the box to the ceiling hole and slide the cable end through the cable connector. Pull about 6 inches of cable through in the box. Tighten the screws with the screwdriver to secure the cable.

Many standard electrical boxes can hold only up to 50 pounds. The Tiffany Coca-Cola lamp is quite large and can weigh a lot. An electrical box that can hold more than 50 pounds is necessary for safety.

8. Place the U-bolt over the fan brace and the support flange to the ends (threaded) of the bolt. On the sides of the bolt, thread a nut and tighten each, using a wrench. The holes at the top of the electrical box should be aligned with the threaded ends of the bolt.

9. Hold the box into the ceiling hole and secure the box to the U-bolt with two hex nuts. Tighten and secure the nuts using a nut driver.

10. Pull your lamp up to the ceiling. Remove any necessary chain links so that the lamp will hang exactly where you want. (See the Tips section for remove the chain links.)

11. Slide the threaded nipple into the chain holder, then into the mounting bar. Thread the wires from the Coca-Cola lamp through the nipple.

12. Lift the Tiffany lamp and screw the mounting bar of the fixture to the electrical box using a Phillips-head screwdriver.

13. Connect the wires. Wrap a copper (ground) wire around the grounding screw; tighten it with your fingers. Connect the end of the wire with the lamp's ground wire. Remove 1/2 inch of the insulation from the lamp's wiring. Connect the lamp's white wire to the cable's white wire, and connect the lamp's black wire to the cable's black wire using a twist-on connector.

14. Fold the wires into the electrical box to keep them hidden. Slide the Tiffany lamp's canopy over the chain links and to the ceiling. Pull the retaining collar up the chain links.

Thread the retaining collar onto the chain holder to secure the canopy. The collar is tightened by twisting it with your hand.

15. Screw in new light bulbs.

16. Turn on the main power.
