Install 2X2
Ceramic tiles are a popular choice for shower walls because they provide moisture protection, beauty, variety and ease of installation. One of the easiest types of ceramic to install is mosaic, which generally means the individual tiles are 2 inches across or less. Because they're so small, they're pre-mounted on mesh-backed sheets in groups of one or two square feet, making the installation go very fast. Make sure to start with a good solid wall of cement board.
Instructions
1. Mark the vertical center the first shower wall, using your level and pencil and drawing the line from top to bottom.
2. With your notched trowel, spread a few square feet of thinset mortar along the bottom portion of the wall, over the middle line. Spread enough mortar to accommodate two of the mesh-back sheets of tile.
3. Set your first two sheets in place on either side of the center line. Leave about 1/4 inch of space between the bottom edges of the tiles and the floor. Spread more mortar as needed and continue hanging sheets of tiles. Cut the tiles at the sides, by the corners, as needed, using your tile cutter. Leave about 1/4 inch of space at the sides.
4. Do the same for each wall of the shower. Let the tiles set overnight.
5. Grout the tiles by pressing grout into the open lines with your grout float, letting it sit for 10 minutes, and then wiping off the excess with a damp sponge. Don't grout the lines along the floor or in the corners.
6. Fill the lines along the floor and in the corners with caulk.
7. Let the grout cure for three or four days. Apply grout sealant over the lines with the sponge applicator.
