Make A Ceiling To Floor Stair Case Light Shade

Ceiling to floor stair case light shades are a price effective way to add a touch of elegance to your home. Elongating the light fixtures around your stair case with fabric that hangs from the ceiling all the way down to the floor will carry the viewer's eye in a unique way and focus them on your artistry. With a day's worth of hard work, it'll look like you spent a fortune decorating your home.

Instructions

1. Measure the height of your light fixtures. Measure the height from your floor to the very tip of your light fixture. Add six inches to the measurement. Measure the circumference of the light fixture and then add one inch to the measurement. A tall latter will probably be needed to obtain these measurements. Only measure the lights that surround your staircase.

2. Choose a fabric. The fabric you choose will be used as an elongated light fixture reaching from your ceiling down to the floor, looking much like glowing posts. Make sure to pick a fabric that is very light weight and somewhat sheer so that the light can travel through. There are plenty of fabric stores with a wide variety of fabrics to choose from. Choose a color that you think will compliment your current decor the best. The amount of fabric you will need depends on the measurements you obtained in Step 1, along with how many light fixtures you will be dressing. It's best to have the fabric pre-cut using the measurements needed for each fixture.

3. Post the fabric into place. Use tacks to temporarily post the fabric into place on the ceiling. This is wear the extra six inches of fabric you added on to your measurements will come into play. Lay the fabric for one light fixture completely flat onto the ground. Choose one of the shorter (width) sides as the top. Six inches down the length of the material sketch a very small dot. Repeat the dot horizontally every few inches so you can see an imaginary line across the material. While holding the material at the top, climb up the latter so you may reach the light fixture. Around the edges of the light fixture attach the fabric directly to the ceiling where you previously made sketch marks. Make sure to tack the fabric about half an inch away from the light fixture so you will have room to work later on.

4. Attach the fabric permanently to your light fixture. Once the fabric is temporarily posted to the ceiling you will use a staple gun to permanently attach the fabric as a new light shade. Use a construction staple gun that can be easily found at any hardware store. Staple the fabric to the ceiling much like you did when you posted it with tacks, except this time staple as close to the edges of the light fixture as possible. Do this every few inches around the circumference of the light fixture. The extra inch added to the width of your measurements earlier will now be noticed. Once you reach the end of the material overlap the last inch around again to make sure no gaps appear.

5. Remove the temporary post. Now that you have permanently attached your new light shades, carefully remove all of the tacks from the ceiling. There should now be about six inches of material flowing over. The over flow of fabric adds an amazing touch of character to your new ceiling to floor stair case light shades. Make sure no staples are showing.
