Install A Heavy Boxing Bag Into The Ceiling

Install a Heavy Boxing Bag into the Ceiling

Hanging a heavy boxing bag entails mounting it on a metal stand or hanging it from the ceiling with a hook. These bags have a great deal of weight and must be securely mounted before use. Metal hangers are mounted into the wood frame of the ceiling to support the bag's mass. Supports, chains and other necessary hardware is found wherever boxing bags are sold.

Instructions

1. Determine the location where you would like the bag to hang. Most bags come with a support hanger included with the bag. This support is connected to a wooden beam or joist in the ceiling.

2. Hold the hanger up to the wood support and mark the location of the holes with a pencil. Use a drill with a 1/8-inch bit to create pilot holes. If drywall covers the joists, you may a stud sensor to locate the support.

3. Place the support against the ceiling aligned with the holes and insert 2-inch lag screws. Use a socket wrench to firmly tighten the screws to the ceiling. The hanger must be tightly secured with absolutely no movement in the wood.

4. Connect the support chain for the bag to the hanger using a 1/2-inch locking ring and pin. Some bags also use heavy S-hooks connected to the hanger alone. Position a sturdy table or step ladder under the bag to support the weight while connecting the chains.

Connect the individual bag chains to the support chains using the attached hooks.
