Ceilings can be textured many different ways.
Ceilings are textured more often than regular walls. For most homeowners, it is important for their ceilings to look good. Ceilings are hardly ever covered by pictures or furniture, so they are much more visible than walls. Ceilings also have light coming from them, making them even more visible. Texture coating a ceiling will allow you a lot of freedom to pick whatever design you desire. There is no right or wrong way to texture a ceiling, even though some ways look better than others.
Instructions
1. Remove all of the furniture and anything else on the floor of the room you will be texturing. Lay down a tarp over the floor. Position a ladder at any corner of the room.
2. Sand down the entire area of the ceiling with medium-grade sandpaper. Sand in a smooth, circular motion until the area is smooth and even throughout.
3. Apply a skim coat to the ceiling. Mix up a bucket of topping compound with a 10-inch taping knife. Spread it on the ceiling in a coat 1/8-inch thick. Apply the compound in small sections and smooth it out until it is level throughout. Let the compound dry overnight.
4. Sand down the whole ceiling thoroughly with fine-grade sandpaper until the ceiling is smooth and even. Attach a texture brush to a drywall pole.
5. Dip the texture brush in the topping compound and press it up against the ceiling beginning at any corner of the room. Push it firmly against the ceiling and turn it slightly in place from side to side. Twist it slightly and remove the brush from the ceiling.
6. Place the brush right next to the first texture mark and repeat the process. Move along the entire ceiling, texturing the compound onto the ceiling until it is complete.
