Diy Kitchen Lighting

When you are setting up kitchen lighting on your own, you probably already know find the light wires and install lighting. What you might not know is decide where lighting should go, and which types of lighting you should use. Certain strategies can help your kitchen lighting look its best.

General Illumination

General lighting gives you a basic and constant light source in your kitchen. These can be fluorescent lights or flat light, but are usually white or yellow. Most people put general lighting in the middle of the kitchen or the middle of the cooking area, on the ceiling. You'll install it right away and use for overhead lights in your kitchen. You can choose from all types of light fixtures for this type of lighting, including fluorescent bars, ceiling light fixtures, track lighting, or ceiling fans with light fixtures in them.

All types of lighting are acceptable and appropriate for general lighting. You can also use a combination of natural lighting through windows and skylights and general lighting like light fixtures.

Highlighting

Highlights are used to complement pieces of your kitchen. These are generally track lights, or other smaller lights fixed on things you want to show off. You might aim a set of track lights at your cupboards or your counters to highlight detail, or at the backsplash to highlight colors.

Also use highlights to make the kitchen look different. If you have lights above your cupboards, this can make them appear higher. If you have light below your cupboards, it can make them look like they are floating on air.

Task Lighting

Task lighting is a third type of DIY lighting you might use in the kitchen. These are light fixtures in areas where you are doing work, such as a light over the kitchen sink, a light under the counter for chopping veggies, or a light in one corner for reading.
