Hang A Canopy On A Vaulted Ceiling

A canopy creates a serene and soft enclosure in a bedroom.

A canopy draws the eye up to notice the vaulted ceiling and adds a sense of romance. The vaulting of the ceiling creates the illusion of a larger room, when the space is used properly. Hanging a canopy from angled ceilings is one way to show off the features in a soft and inviting way. All you need are a few towel hangers and lots of sheer fabric to create the canopy effect you want.

Instructions

1. Move the bed to the location where you want it to stay. Position a tall ladder along the outside edge of the bed. Move a stud finder on the ceiling above each corner of the bed. Mark the location of the closest ceiling joist with a pencil.

2. Install a towel ring on the ceiling at the ceiling joist location. Screw the towel ring bracket to the ceiling and into the joist with a screwdriver. Attach the top of the towel ring to the bracket, using the tool provided with the towel ring. Repeat at each corner of the bed.

3. Cut sheer fabric 24 inches longer and wider than the top of the mattress. Lift the corner of the fabric to the towel ring. Insert the corner through the ring and pin the corner to the fabric, using a decorative pin. You can find vintage-style brooches and beaded pins in most department stores.

4. Drape long sheer fabric at each corner for a post effect and from ring to ring for a swag effect. Use safety pins or knot the fabric to secure the fabric at each ring.
